Fostering may be the perfect opportunity for you if you are unable to provide for a permanent home.

Fostering allows each dog to adapt to their new lifestyle and provides Greyhound Adoption Program Australia up to 6 weeks to perfectly match each greyhound to their forever home. All you will require is a little patience, a fenced home and a love for dogs.

Every state Greyhound Adoption Program ensures every greyhound that is available for adoption is thoroughly temperament tested, desexed, wormed, microchipped and vaccinated.

Fostering and your pets

Whilst our greyhounds are well cared for in the racing kennel environment, they benefit from adequate time in foster care prior to adoption. This assists their adjustment to everyday sights and sounds that are common to a domestic environment.

There are two different types of foster carers: those who prepare each dog for their move into a forever home and those who begin fostering a dog to test out permanent adoption. The latter can be a suitable option for families who want to experience living with a greyhound before making a final decision.

The transition from track to home

Every dog is temperament tested, desexed, wormed, microchipped and vaccinated before adoption. They spend a set amount of time with a foster carer before being moved onto a permanent adopted home.

Some states also provide provisions so dogs can be walked on a leash in public without a muzzle.
